The John Way(ne) to Europe

Before SAS' Polar Route, Americans had to cross the U.S. before flying to Europe. The new route cut hours off the journey – making it the preferred way for Hollywood stars like John Wayne to reach Europe.

The Magic Flight

In 1951, Walt Disney flew with SAS from New York to Copenhagen, highlighting the airline's growing role in connecting Scandinavia with some of the world's most influential figures.

Hollywood Heartthrob

Hollywood icon Cary Grant stopped at Copenhagen Airport in 1957 while returning from filming The Pride and the Passion in Spain with Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren.

The Star Route

As SAS made the journey between New York and Scandinavia faster than ever, Hollywood stars embraced the new direct route. Among them was Audrey Hepburn, who flew with SAS across the Atlantic.
